MY SONA

STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS
(A Read Speech for English 290-Speech and Stage Arts)
To Senate President Kristina Buenafe; Speaker Febie Casinao, Vice President Patrick Bautista, Former Presidents Daniffer Jay Tapan and Taj Ngilay, to our respected magistrates of our Supreme Court, Senators, to the members of the House of Representatives, to the member of my Cabinet, Local Government officials, to our ever brave uniformed members of AFP and PNP (where my father belongs), to all public servants, and most of all to the undisputed power of the Filipino citizens, good afternoon to all of us.
This is my first SONA, and I believe that this speech will mean a lot, not just for me, but for every Filipinos who witnessed my administration for the first few months of my service. It's not been too long since we started to aspire for a great change in our nation: we hoped and prayed that someday, we will find a Superman who will save us from the doom of corrupt government officials. However, we failed to find one. What we found rather is a leader who is fond of riding in her famed magic car, the wheelchair and her famous power, comes from her super magic weapon, the neck braces! We are tired of this kind of superhero, and thus we wanted to hire someone who best mirror a six letter word- try to spell out CHANGE!
It's been a long while since we first started saying in our very own homes: “We want change, Who will bring change? When will there be a change?” Actually, the questions can be answered through oruselves only. We want change? The change is already existing. Who will bring change? Of course, it is not me nor Vice President Patrick Bautista, but it will be US! And when will that change exist? It already exist, just open our eyes and notice its presence.
Since the very first day of my administration, I already encountered numerous problems, left by our former superhero, which calls for an urgent resolution. Here comes the unresolved problems of our education system, where students lack educational assistance from the government. Last administration allotted 20 billion for education, but what were supplied to our public schools? Unfinished school buildings? Torn textbooks? Wet blackboards? Insufficient chairs? And who suffered? THE HOPE OF OUR NATION! We were also left by a very huge amount of debt from other countries, and it needs be paid as soon as possible. Here comes also the big problem, the continuous and undying reproduction of the species of Lolong, not in the zoo, but in the government office. How I wish they will be transferred in the zoo, for what we need is a genus of officials with transparency and who uses their fangs for capturing their fellow alligators too. There were numerous problems, but only one solution, CHANGE.
Ladies and gentlemen, I guess, we have also to look into the brighter side of our nation. As we believe- It's more fun in Philippines. Now, let me take you to what's really fun in Philippines. It's fun in the Philippines because students now are enjoying the blessings of education, with a total allocated budget of 279 billion pesos, it is possible for them now to write with their own pencils and papers and read with their own textbooks. It's fun in the Philippines because we had intensified our Pantawid Pamilya Program, where from 3 million beneficiaries, now almost 4 million beneficiaries already-meaning, There's no poverty in Philippines. It's more fun in Philippines because there were almost 10 million tourists who visited our tourist spots for the past year, thus, exposing our very own, Puerto Princesa Subtirranean Underground River, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. It's more fun in the Philippines, because there are no more wang wangs echoing in every streets, coming from the luxurious cars of our government officials, with the exception of the wang wangs coming from ambulances, firetrucks or police cars. It's also more fun in Philippines because the cost of living is cheap, meaning, much take home for the family. The government has allotted almost 205 billion pesos for the wage increase of our workers. My dearest Filipino people, with an allocated budget for 2011- 897.3 trillion, every dimension of Philippine problem is starting to vanish, which brought up the change in our government system. I have not wished for these, but all of us hoped for these. What I wished upon the star, is to make all of you smile in the midst of your grudges and trials.
For every policeman I meet, he would say, “ Thank you sir for the bigger salary which you gave to us.” And I say, “ It's not me, you're the superhero.”
For every child I see, he would say, “ Thank you po for the pencil and notebook.” And I say, “ You're the one who provided for it, because you're a superhero.”
For every mother I meet, she would say, “Maraming salamat po para sa bakuna ng anak ko.” And I say, “ No. It's not me. It's you the real superhero.”
For every OFW I meet in the airport, she would say, “ Thank you sir. Now I can live with my family here in Philippines.” And I say, “ Again, It's not me. But it's you, modern hero, a real SUPERHERO.”
For every Filipino I will meet, he or she will say, “ Thank you for leading us to the way.” Once again I say, “ It's not me. It's you who brought Change in our nation. Coz, you are the real SUPERHEROES.”
Once again I say, I may be talking here in front, but it's your voice who speak it out. I may be standing here in front, but it's your body standing proud here in front. I may be representing change here in front. But I only represent, coz you're the inventor of change. I am only your loyal servant, and you Filipino people, are my masters, worthy to be served. Thank you very much and once again, It's more fun here in Philippines.

NDEA MEET EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEECH 2012

Notre Dame Educational Association Meet 2012
NDEA Meet 2012
Venue: Notre Dame of Kidapawan College, Kidapawan City
October 18-20, 2012

EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING COMPETITION

It was still fresh in my mind when our school, Notre Dame of Dadiangas University had initiated a screening for NDEA and PRISAA Extemporaneous Speaking Competition. Nervousness was all I felt during that time when I joined the said screening. Majority of the school's best debaters and speakers were present during that day. I was quite pessimistic that I will be chosen, for I am not that good when it comes to speech competition. However, after a week, I was really amazed when the moderator of the Honors Society, Dr. Jose Dagoc Jr. approached me and told me that I was the one luckily chosen to represent our university for the forth coming competitions. I was really happy yet nervous for what would happen next in this another journey of my academic life.

I spent my semestral break in our school training for the NDEA Extemporaneous speaking event. I was very fortunate that the school had given me four of the best speech trainers in the university to enhance the way I deliver my speech. They were Ms. Ersweetcel Servano, MAEd, Ms. Ivy Vallejo, Sr. Cynthia Triumfante SMSM and Dr. Jose Dagoc Jr. All that I though during my training days was to improve everything in me. I was just so blessed that I was not only molded to become a good speaker but I was also transformed into becoming a much optimistic and persistent competitor. I did not waste any spare time. I indulged myself to trainings and from time to time, I felt really glad when my trainers told me that I am really improving.

A week passed and my nerves were really panicking. I did not know what to do with my aching neck due to hypertension. Maybe, that was due to stressed nights that I was not able to sleep tight due to discomfort and worries for the forth coming competition. i started to worry because every time I heard credits to previous contestants, I really felt pressure on my side. Yet, I never let it melt me down.

The Power of Visioning

One of my trainers introduced to the NDDU Academic contestants the power of visioning. Visioning is like self reflection wherein you try to visualize the things you want to happen in the future. Well, I tried it out thinking that it might be effective. I was just so stuck on this routine that every morning, I did this before standing off from my bed. I closed eyes, thinking the presence of God. I thought of the things that I wanted to happen during the competition. I imagined myself speaking fluently in front of the crowd, convincing every people listening to me. I imagined the board of judges nodding and affirming to every words I utter. I imagined that after the contest, my coaches and fellow Dameans would jump off from their seats, so glad to hear that I won it. This routine helped me a lot in boosting up my confidence and optimism. It also intensified my faith to God and to myself.

This is it!

It was almost a three hour trip going to Kidapawan City. While on the bus, as I was seated with my coach, Sr. Cynthia, I just spent the whole time enjoying the pleasure of music and watching a video on board all about Pasungay Festival where carabaos fight. Later then I noticed that my eyes started to itch due to the Bonamin I took before the trip, considering the fact that I am allergy to some of the common medicines. I just took a nap and when I woke up, I found out that we were already heading our way to Datu Paglas, Maguindanao. Few more kilometers and we reached the beautiful city of Kidapawan. At last, we reached our destination, the Notre Dame of Kidapawan College. We moved out from the bus exhausted and sought for a true bed sleep. We fetched our stuffs in our quarters. We roamed for a while around the campus vicinity and later, the lunch was served. After the lunch, we attended the Eucharistic celebration joined by the participating Notre Dame schools: Notre Dame of Marbel University, Notre Dame of Midasayap College, Notre Dame University, Notre Dame- RVMCC, Notre Dame of Salaman College, Notre Dame Siena College of Polomolok, Notre Dame of Tacurong College, Notre Dame of Jolo College and Notre Dame of Kidapawan College (the host school). Everybody greeted each other with a blazing spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

October 19, 2012

The second day of our stay was truly the day which made me nervous. This was the day of my contest. Early in the morning, I'm back again with my visioning while on my bed. While other students were busy racing on their way to the bathroom, I was just so relaxed lying on my bed mat waiting for the others to wake up. I too my bath and paved my way to the eating hall where everybody seemed to fill their tummies with food since this was the first day of contests both sports and academics. I was also very excited for the morning event was Quizbowl. We went to the gymnasium and witnessed the Quiz Bee. Unfortunately, our team bagged the 4th place. Yet, this was already a big reward for the team who did their very best to earn high points. After it, I went directly to our quarters and started to feel butterflies in my tummy. I became so nervous that I could not even understand my real feeling. Everything went so smoothly until we ate our lunch. After it, I fixed myself and changed my clothes into a suit. I wore a yellow long sleeve with a golden tie paired with a black coat. I was set and we heed our way to the gym. As I entered in the gym, I felt the aura of nervousness and discomfort from my fellow contingents. I saw in their eyes the gloomy spark of uneasiness. After a couple of minutes, we were isolated in a Nursing Laboratory. The coldness of the room intensified our nervousness. All of us shared the same feelings. One by one, we were called to answer the question. I was contestant number 8. I was hoping that I will be lucky for number 8 is a lucky number. "Next!" I heard from the doorway,I stood up from my seat and took a deep breath.. As I entered into the venue, I was shocked of the numerous people watching our event. I walked through the center aisle as I took a glimpse to team NDDU who were smiling at me, giving me another thrust of encouragement. I reached the stage and faced the crowd. Thu emcee then read the question, " How can you reciprocate the good things that your school has done to make you a good person?" I was given a 3 minute preparation time. But within this time range, 2 minutes were spent to a complete mental drought when I could not think of any answer. Then the last drop of time triggered my adrenaline and made me think of a bright idea and style to answer the said question. I went before the microphone and I started to greet the people. Actually, there were only two points which I tackled in my answer. First, I can reciprocate the good things that my school has done to make me a good person  by taking active and full participation in every activity that our school will initiate may it be stressing  the cognitive, affective or psychomotor aspect of learning and second, I promise that after i will graduate from our school, I will work in NDDU not just as a competent professional but also an individual who will deliver quality, transformative and holistic education.

I saw my coach and Maam Esteva smile. I felt relieved after my answer and relaxed every tensed muscles I had. After it, I felt numb. I felt only my hands shaking. After a few minutes, the results were delivered. The emcee the announced, the CHAMPION for NDEA Meet 2012 Extempo Speaking is Maico Demi Aperocho from Notre Dame of Dadiangas University!

I was shocked and happy. I can't explain what I felt during that time. All that in my mind is to text my parents that I was declared the Champion. After it, I said to myself, "SEE? I MADE IT!" Thank you so much to God Almighty for His guidance and enlightenment, to my NDDU family and to my ever supportive Mama and Papa.

My next mission- PRISAA 2012 Extempo Speaking this coming December 1, 2012! Wish me luck guys!

HOW TO GET EXCELLENT GRADES AFTER TESTS

HOW TO GET EXCELLENT GRADES AFTER TESTS
Students nowadays worry about their hard examinations, long quizzes and unending written essays. Their cramming made them be last in the class and failed sometimes. The following ways are just some of the steps to assure (not 100% assurance) that students will get higher test results and scores:

1.ORGANIZE YOUR NOTES
If you have an ordered notes and managed every pages to be neat and comprehensible, well you can easily study your lessons. Neat jotted down notes means easy for comprehension and this will ensure that you as an owner can understand every written words. Make sure that the ink you are using is dark to enable you to read it though in dim lights. Make sure that you also avoid erasures so that your mind won't be interrupted by awkward pen crossings on your notebooks.

2. MAKE A REVIEWER
Three to four days before the examination, make sure you already prepared your reviewer consisting the important words which may probably come out to your exams. Using a whole of paper, fold it lengthwise and start writing down the important details to be studied. Highlight the most needed details for easy memorization. Do not write straightly from the left to the right of the paper. Make a column of two. This will ensure that you rests your eyes for awhile and it is not a burden for you to read long sentences in just a minute.

3. STUDY TWO DAYS BEFORE
If the examination is fast approaching, make sure that you study two days before the examination day. Make sure you already scanned through every pages of your notebooks. Memorize what is needed. Do not cram on the examination day. This will make your mind over-stressed which will cause you not to concentrate in the examinations. If you have spare time, instead of watching action or horror movies, you could lie down in a sofa and start scanning your notes. Do not waste time because in just a minute you could already absorb a lot of words which will be helpful for your answers.

4. HAVE AN ENOUGH SLEEP
Make sure that you will have at least 8 hours of sleep the night before the exams. Do not spend until midnight studying your lessons. This will make your brain so stressed that it may malfunction the following morning. If your exam is early, sleep early too. This will ensure that you can wake up at dawn without forcing yourself to stand up from your bed. A night before the exam is a day for relaxation and enough sleep only.

5. EAT YOUR BREAKFAST
Before you go to school, make sure you had eaten your breakfast already. Though you are in a hurry going to school, make sure you have at least a sandwich with you or some crackers to grab. Coffee is not advisable for it might make your mind dull for a while due to the caffeine it contains. Eat a healthy breakfast which should be according the nutrition pyramid imposed by the WHO. " An empty stomach will cause an empty mind."

6. RELAX
Don't feel so harsh or nervous when examination day is at its peak. Just be relaxed and confident that you can pass every exam you will take. The night before, if you feel sleepy already, don't force yourself anymore to study the remaining chapters to be studied. You can wake up earlier than the usual time you wake up. Take a pillow, take a deep breath and start an uninterrupted sleep.

7. TAKE YOUR TIME
During examination proper, do not be so fast in answering your questions. Make sure that you answered every questions needed to be answered. If you don't know the answer of a certain question, you could jump on to another question and just go back later to the missed one. Never be in a hurry because this might cause students to answer a very wrong answer. If the teacher says, review you answers then you should do it. Review every items and assure that you answers are all right.

8. BE PATIENT
One common type of exam is the essay. But this has been the most hated part for some students because it makes them exhausted to write long composition about particular topics. In writing an essay, make sure you write patiently.Make sure that you construct it and are concise and related to the topic. Once you already started the essay, make sure you'll finish it. Do not leave it unfinished just because you are tired or simply not interested anymore to finish it. Finish it and make it grandeur.

9. ANSWER HONESTLY
Do not cheat or bring copy of the studied details. Do not cheat from your seatmates nor let them cheat from you. It is a sin and if caught, you will be scolded by your teacher and might be suspended or get failing grades.

10. PRAY

Before the exam starts, make sure you'll communicate with God. Ask guidance from Him that He'll enlighten your mind so that it will be easy for you to answer the exam. Ask for God's help instead of cheating. Pray to Him that He will give you the knowledge to answer the examinations.

If you'll affirm with these steps, perhaps you will get higher test results than your previous examination results. Good luck to your exams guys.

HOW TO BE AN EXCELLENT COLLEGE STUDENT?

College is quite hard to undertake. It requires a lot of efforts and hard work to obtain high grades. But, there are also simple ways to be an exceptional EXCELLENT STUDENT!
Just simply follow this series of steps and make sure you apply this for real. And I assure you that there will be a change on how you perceive life.

1.) Be TIME- CONSCIOUS!!
Most of the students in college were dropped out not because of mere absences but also with consistent tardiness. Yes! Teachers consider tardiness as an absence if it reaches the maximum counts. If you are truly showing concern for your studies, always be early and never be absent. I come to our university about 15- 25 minutes before my first period class commences. This is one way to assure that I will never be late and can start the class from the start.Others say that " Being late is better than absent." Try to junk this quote for this would not benefit you at all. Why would you come late if you can come early? Why would you be absent if you can be present? Aside from tardiness, time-consciousness means time awareness too when it comes to dues of projects and assignments. Once it is the deadline, make sure you are ready to pass your projects and requirements. Don't tolerate " later habit". Make sure you are ahead of time. Never be late for you won';t know the probable consequences of being late.

2.) BE A BOOKSTORE!
Yes. A bookstore is a store for educational supplies right? My classmates often call me a "bookstore" because I got all the stuffs needed by a student. These include, stapler, scotch tape, pencil, eraser, pens, sharpener, correction tapes and calculator. Once my classmate says, " hey can I borrow your stapler?" I am always happy to lend it but they should assure proper usage. Being a bookstore will help you do your task as a student easily. You won't rush on buying things while you have it already at home. You won't cram borrowing things from your mates and be called a "parasite". And most of all, you don't have to worry to do things all by yourself because you have all the things you need and no need for you to ask someone's help.

3.) LISTEN! PAY ATTENTION! JOT DOWN!
These are the basic tasks of a real student. First, you should be obliged to listen carefully to your teacher. Avoid chatting with seat mates and never allow temptation overrule yourself. Just concentrate on what the teacher tackles about. Have an eye-to-eye discussion with the teacher and never be distracted with your noisy mates. Second, you should pay attention! This is imperative and you should do this. Pay attention to your professor even if the ambiance of the class seemed to be full of clamors. Listen to your professor if he/she is giving instructions.Lastly, jot down. I usually do this especially when the lesson discussed is quite hard. I spare time to jot down the gist and the salient points uttered by my professor.

4.) MAKE YOUR OWN TRANSCRIPT OF RECORDS
This might sound silly but this works. For  me, I create my own Transcript of Records or class card through Microsoft. I make it look like the typical transcript to be requested on the Registrar after graduation. I insert the school logo too to make it real. And what's more motivating is when you right down your desired grades for every subjects. This is one of the secret why I frequently get 1.00 on most of my subjects. I look to it before I go to school and think of it most of the time. The grades written on it should be your target grades. On this way, you are motivated to reach those target grades and strive hard to accomplish too. I also compute my general average. Through these ways, I know I can maintain my very high grades in every subjects. And this is also a useful tip to those students who aspire for Graduation Honors.

5.)SLEEP.
Take time to relax. Being intelligent does not require to be bookish. You don't have to indulge yourself to a pile of thick books and read them page by page. This won't make you brilliant. Rather it will make you crazy!!
You should have at least 7 hours of sleep. But you should also observe waking up time. I consider 4: 45 A.M to be my waking up time regardless of the activities I have to do.  Through this power sleep, you can concentrate on class and maintain good focus when the class is still going on. Aside from this, sleeping will make your mind lighter and more functional.

6.) DREAM!

Dreaming won't just literally mean dreaming while sleeping. It means goal-setting. You should set-up your own goal in life. For an instance, I have a goal to maintain my ideal grade inside the university. And this is 1.5. I also aim of maintaining my slot in the Dean's List every semester. And this should always be on the Highest Honors. And every semester, I really wait for the Dean's List post on the bulletin board and expects that I should still be on the highest honors. Dreaming doesn't mean over ambitious. It will pep you and will motivate you to struggle on the unpredictable race of schooling. It won't make you a desperate one rather it will make you a motivated being. I believe that when I aspire, I really aspire for the best and not for the least. Even if other people say that it's painful not to reach you expectations. But, it's more painful not to act upon on your most desired dreams in life.

I hope these steps will help you especially those students who aspire for Graduation Honors. Good luck college students!!

These are my partial achievements since I entered school life:

HOW TO OBTAIN SUCCESS IN LIFE?

Many people thought of becoming a successful being someday. Many opt of becoming to be wealthy and to be happy in life. Majority of world's population wished to be satisfied by the way they live life. But, these are just few of the opinions raised by people who wanted to cherish a bountiful life but lacks effort to accomplish it. Perhaps, these steps will help you realize the things you have to do to OBTAIN SUCCESS IN LIFE:
1.) Be yourself!
God watches us everywhere and He knows our every single move. Oftentimes, we became so pretentious when it comes to feelings and prevalence of our wealth. We tend to show in public that we are rich but behind us is the truth that we live in slum area only. Others believed that they are rich but the truth is that their parents are almost kneeling to earn money. Why don't we become our genuine selves and perhaps everything will be smooth-sailing. Why don't we show the real we in public so that people will learn to appreciate us by the truth we show to them and not by the lies and fallacies we keep to conceal. Being real means being honest!
2.) Throw laziness!
Yes. This is imperative and once I say imperative, I command you to do so! Well, as a matter of fact, there's no need to be mandated, but you yourself should initiate the first move to act upon on your dreams. For an instance if you are  student. Many student nowadays are tolerating majority saying their laziness which leads them to arbitrariness and unproductivity. If you want to excel in school and obtain good and high grades, you should simply do your task as a student. STUDY! LISTEN! PAY ATTENTION! These are just so simple and it is a task of a real student. Laziness will lead you to nothing. If you let laziness reign over you, no doubt until you die, you will be lazy to catch your breath. Try to be active and participative in the run of life. Life is a long journey and there is no time to be lazy but to have a constant leap over dangers.
3.) Be Humble!
Two words will do. Just be humble to everyone in the midst of your fame, success and power. Never tolerate arrogance and pride. Because if you will, time will come that you will realize that everything you got won't be nothing and impossible if you have not met people whom you treat haughtily. Now, be humble and prove to everyone that you deserve success in life and not a lachrymose to suffer forever.
4.) Motivation
Motivate yourself everyday. Perhaps, keeping a record of your achievements will do. Diaries are good motivation too. Try to jot down all your achievements and accomplishments in life. You can also have a roadmap of your future. Try making a chronological map of what you wanted to happen for the next few years. If you are a student and aspires for Graduation Honors, you can write your plans after graduating and jot down your "must-to-accomplish" things such as obtaining a grade above 90 and having a general average of 90 and above. Through these, you can easily keep a record of how you did well for the past few days and perhaps these accomplishments will help you and motivate you to do more better than the latter. Motivate yourself everyday and say " If others can do, why can't I?" Be optimistic!
5.) Aspire for the best
"When you aspire, aspire for the best because that best will be your future!" A simple encouragement from my mom and with this principle which I upheld, I was able to slowly by slowly achieve what I aspire. Of course, I aspire for the best. If you already knew your capacities then why achieve for something less? You should go for the best and be positive to achieve it!

Hope these steps will help you a lot. Good luck to your future life.!
